Social Media
Management Cost.
Agencies charge anywhere from $300 to $10,000 a month to manage social media. Here's what actually separates them — and what you should expect to pay.
Why social media
pricing is so confusing.
The social media management industry is full of $299/month "packages" that are really just scheduled posts from a template library, and $8,000/month retainers that pad their invoices with 15 strategy deliverables nobody asked for.
The honest reality: what you should pay depends entirely on how many platforms you're managing, how much original content needs to be created, whether you're running paid ads alongside organic, and whether you want someone who just posts — or someone who actually thinks about your brand.
This guide breaks down how social media management is priced across the industry and shows you exactly how Ritner Digital structures our social retainers — including what's in scope and what isn't.
What actually
moves the price.
Social media management pricing isn't arbitrary — it's driven by the scope of what's actually being done. These six factors determine where you land.
Number of Platforms
Each platform has different content formats, audiences, and best practices. Managing Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and TikTok simultaneously is four distinct jobs — not one multiplied.
Content Creation
Scheduling existing content is cheap. Creating original graphics, copy, and short-form video from scratch requires real creative resources — and costs accordingly.
Post Frequency
Three posts a week is very different from daily content across multiple platforms. Volume directly drives how much strategy, production, and scheduling time is needed.
Community Management
Responding to comments, DMs, and mentions is a separate service many agencies charge extra for — or quietly skip. Ask explicitly if it's included.
Paid Social Integration
Boosted posts and full Meta or LinkedIn ad management are a different scope than organic posting. If ads are involved, expect the price to reflect that work.
Strategy vs. Execution
A cheap retainer gets you a content calendar. A real retainer gets you competitive research, audience analysis, content strategy, and someone who thinks before they post.

What each
platform costs to manage.
High visual demand — graphics, Reels, and Stories require significant creative time. Most resource-intensive platform to do well.
Still the reach leader for local businesses. Facebook Pages, Groups, and paid integration add layers of management complexity.
High-quality B2B content commands premium rates. Thought leadership, company page management, and employee advocacy all factor in.
Video-first platform with the highest content production demands. Scripting, filming, and editing short-form video is a real time investment.
What's not
included — and why.
Social media management pricing can hide a lot of surprises. Here's exactly what sits outside our retainer fees and what you should budget for separately.
Ad spend is yours, not ours. Meta, LinkedIn, and TikTok ad spend goes directly to those platforms. We charge only for managing and optimizing the campaigns — never a percentage of your budget.
Photography and video production are scoped separately. If your retainer requires a brand shoot or professional video, we quote it as a standalone project with full scope and cost transparency upfront.
Influencer fees and partnership costs are pass-through. If your strategy involves influencers or paid collaborations, those fees go directly to the creators. We handle the sourcing and management at no markup.
Social scheduling tools are billed at cost. Platforms like Later, Hootsuite, or Sprout Social needed for your account are passed through at zero markup if not already included in your retainer.
No lock-in on Presence or Growth tiers. Month-to-month with 30-day notice. We keep clients because results compound — not because a contract prevents them from leaving.
