Strategy(05)Content with a job to do.
Before anything gets written, I work out what your content needs to achieve, who it’s for, the few topics you can own and where it should live, then turn it into a year-long plan you can actually follow.

What is a content strategy?
A content strategy is the plan behind everything you publish: the business goal it serves, the people it’s written for, the topics you’ll cover, the channels you’ll use and the order you’ll do it in. It fits on a page, and it tells you what to make and, just as importantly, what to skip.
Why it matters
Without one, content turns into random posts that never add up to leads. With one, every piece supports a goal, builds on the last and gives search engines and AI tools a clear picture of what you’re the expert in.
01 · Start with why and who
Business goals
Start with what the business needs.
Content should move a number you care about: new accounts, booked jobs, calls. I start with your business goal, work back to how many leads it takes and decide what share content should bring in. Then we measure that, not pageviews or follower counts.

02 · Start with why and who
Audience
Write for a real person.
I build a clear picture of the people you sell to from your sales calls, reviews, search data and a few short customer interviews: what they ask, what worries them and where they look for answers. Every piece of content is then written for one of them.

03 · Decide what and where
Content pillars
Pick the few topics you can own.
Every candidate topic gets the same three questions: do customers ask about it, are you genuinely the expert, and does it lead to a sale? The two or three that pass become your pillars. Everything else gets skipped, on purpose.

04 · Decide what and where
Channel mix
Fewer channels, done well.
Not every channel is worth it for every business. I weigh each one by how much it would bring you against how much effort it takes, start with the few in the sweet spot and say plainly which ones to skip for now. Doing four well beats doing seven badly.
Illustrative channels. Placement depends on your business.
05 · Plan the year
Content roadmap
A year of content, planned in an afternoon.
The strategy becomes a simple roadmap: one pillar per quarter, the posts, videos and emails that go with it, and the steady pieces that run all year. You always know what’s next, and every quarter we check what’s working and adjust.
